Training and education

Priority of training people at Barro Alto

The process of hiring the necessary professionals for the new Barro Alto industrial plant that will begin operations on January 1, 2011 began in 2009 and will be consolidated in 2010.

At Barro Alto, Anglo American is betting on the training of local workers. The first step was mapping of the possibilities for contracting in the region. Later, a partnership was established with Senai in the state of Goiás, which aided in the establishment of two actions: firstly, professors and educational facilities were made available in Barro Alto for those who were interested in finishing high school. Next, those trained were sent to the Senai in Niquelândia (GO) to receive the necessary technical training and be able to work at the Barro Alto plant. The professionals trained received all necessary support from Anglo American, including transportation, educational materials and technical equipment. This way, the company seeks to meet its needs and to contribute towards the professional development of many people who are seeking an opportunity to work.

During this technical training at Senai, held in Niquelândia for the future employees of Barro Alto, 32 students were trained in electro-electronics and 47 in pyrometallurgy.
