SIPAT

Integrated Internal Week for Work Accident Prevention

In October, 2009, the first Integrated SIPAT (Internal Week for Accident Prevention) was simultaneously held in all Anglo American’s units. During the event, which theme was “Perception of the Hazard Conditions,” several activities were carried out to encourage the labor force to reflect on hazardous conditions and everyone’s need to take over leadership when safety is involved. As explained during the event, in order to prevent accidents, people should be attentive, among other things, to the work environment, the activity performed, the work site and conditions, the executor’s qualification and conditions, and the barriers to and controls of existing hazardous conditions.

The unified actions scheduled for 2009’s Integrated SIPAT included a theater play staged by the employees (with the same theme and script) in all the units and the exhibition of a video with testimonies of some employees and their children. The event was completed with musical exhibitions performed by projects sponsored by Anglo American and the drawing of a book about domestic accidents.

During that week, an international commission composed of representatives from Anglo American’s units in Chile, South Africa and Zambia visited the company, besides Dave Morris, in charge of the Basic Metals Division, and Frank Fox (Head of Occupational Health from Anglo Plc.), who shared knowledge and interacted with the units.
