Quality assurance
All Anglo American’s safety operations are certified by OHSAS 18001, which allows recognition of the practices established by internal and external audits.
The company has developed monitoring methodologies for self-evaluations of the safety and occupational health systems and established the fulfillment of annual targets. This process implies the monitoring of the compliance with the safety management programs according to structured analyses of system and people requirements. Action plans are prepared and given priority according to their results, in order to enable the handling of specific aspects and an evolution in the conformity process.
By the practice “revisions between peers”, multidisciplinary professionals from a given Anglo American’s unit – in Brazil or abroad – visit other units to perform support revisions and conformity with the safety programs, share experiences and good practices and suggest improvement recommendations.
Specific audits are contingently conducted in critical processes, that is, those that are usually in potentially high hazard conditions and that require risk management.
In 2009, Barro Alto and Copebrás-Catalão units’ transportation processes were verified as part of a global plan for joint identification of actions aimed at reducing risks in this activity. Global and local action plans were prepared and will be implemented in 2010.
