Hiring

Belief in talent

Anglo American Brasil believes in its team’s talent and encourages it. By means of several programs already mentioned in previous reports, the company seeks to form leaders and evaluate all their qualifications. In hiring, priority is given to internal selection processes. Following that, the company favors the hiring of local labor, that is, professionals who live in the area surrounding its operational units. Its intention is to train and qualify residents of the local communities.

An example of this practice was the partnership with Senai in the State of Goiás: Anglo American trained people living in the town of Barro Alto (GO) and its surroundings to work in the company’s new unit, which is being built in the municipality. The people chosen finished high school and were provided with technical qualification in classes given by Senai teachers from Niquelândia (GO), in which latest-generation laboratories were used.

Upon transfer of the project team from Belo Horizonte to Barro Alto, the proportion of top management members from the local community hired by Anglo American to work in Barro Alto project was reduced from 2008 to 2009, falling from 33.33% to 11.11%.
