Emissions, effluents and waste

Initiatives adopted

Since 2007, Anglo American has been reducing its direct and indirect emissions of greenhouse effect gases (GEE): 2009 registered 185,421.28 tons of CO2, as compared to 401,932.71 tons of CO2 registered in 2007, and 277,901.26 tons in 2008.

One of the initiatives adopted by the company in order to decrease GEE emissions in 2009 is the replacement of low-performance electrical engines with high-performance engines (at Copebrás Catalão/Ouvidor and Anglo American Brazil – Catalão/Ouvidor units), which action cannot be measured. Partial replacement of oil with wood chip is also under study for burners of calcination furnaces at Codemin.
