One Anglo
Sharing the ambition
Adopted in all the Company’s units around the world, in Brazil the One Anglo Program – Sharing the Ambition, which addresses the global values and system, was rolled out in the end of February 2009, when it was presented to the leaderships (directors, officers, managers and coordinators) who are to act as multipliers and facilitators. By the end of the first half of 2009, program-related training was being provided to all Anglo American employees.
Improvements in controlling expenditures
Aligned with the One Anglo philosophy, in 2009 the new limits for approval of financial transactions, such as operating expenses, advances, requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, invoices without purchase orders and special items, were defined and unified. The changes were implemented to integrate the entire approval process for controlling expenditures, and the rules are valid throughout all units in Brazil.
Continuous Improvement Program
The Continuous Improvement Program is a series of activities planned to promote the continuous improvement of all work processes, both by driving down costs and making better use of resources. All employees may and should participate in this process.
Among the suggestions approved and implemented pursuant to the program guidelines in the Group are a cutback in international travel, preference for use of teleconferences for holding meetings, and renegotiation with suppliers.
In 2009, the Company received 462 suggestions for improvement for several departments. Some referred to the process of niobium concentration (26%), phosphate beneficiation in Catalão (14%) and niobium leaching (10%), in addition to proposals related to the environment, occupational health and safety.
