Anglo American policies and public commitments

The Anglo Way of working, developing sustainably and generating wealth for the country and society is spelled out in the main management policies of the Company:

The Anglo Safety Way – this is the mechanism that brings together all the tools used by the Company to administer safety and its interrelation with operations. These tools include the Safety Principles and the Safety Management System Standards, the Risk Management System (which identifies the critical risks in the Company’s activities), the Human Leadership Program (based on concepts, hazards and risks), and the Anglo Fatal Risks Standards (which include engineering rules for risk analysis).

The Anglo Safety Golden Rules – Contemplates items called the Anglo Safety Golden Rules. Over 80% of the types of activities with high fatality risk are in areas covered by these rules.

The Anglo Occupational Health Way – The divisions and operations run by Anglo American follow the guidelines of the Good Citizenship Guide – Corporate Principles, Zero Harm Vision, and Occupational Health Policy. In order to help meet the commitments related to occupational health, Anglo American developed the Anglo Occupational Health Principles, the Anglo Occupational Health Structure and the Anglo Occupational Health Management System Guidelines.

The Anglo Environmental Way – Anglo American developed the Environmental Principles, the Environmental Framework, the Anglo Environmental Management and the Environmental Performance Standards to contribute toward compliance with all environmental protection and management goals. Anglo Social Way – The most recent management policy was launched in 2009 and addresses Anglo American’s commitments to achieving excellence in social performance. Improving relations with local communities is one of the main goals of Anglo Social Way.

Policy for HIV/Aids – Recognizing the human tragedy caused by the HIV/Aids epidemic, Anglo American has created a special policy to deal with the implications of the disease for its employees, their families and local communities. Through permanent actions, the Company seeks to mitigate the consequences of the epidemic at the social, economic and developmental levels.

Supply Chain Global Standard – Anglo American is striving to favor suppliers who show commitment to established criteria. Compliance with the Anglo American Supplier Sustainable Development Code, which addresses environmental, labor and human rights issues, is one of the preconditions for a long-lasting commercial relationship.
