Risk management

Systemic approach in strategic vision

Anglo American’s ongoing concern with working in a systemic manner has included Risk Management in the strategic vision of the organization’s Integrated Management – going all the way from the regular assessment of socioenvironmental, health, safety and environmental risks which are directly associated with the activities of the operations, to the realm of business risks.

Risk matrices were developed to include all these levels, and regular meetings are held with the participation of all hierarchical levels to update this assessment, in addition to discussing and improving upon the actions, seeking a steady reduction of the risks within the Company.

The Company has maintained and complied with the agreement entered into with the Mining Engineering and Petroleum Department of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (PMI/Poli/USP), focused on the dissemination of their standards and on training in Risk Management.

In all, 200 employees from various departments received training in 2009, and another 200 will be trained by the end of 2010. in this same period, all operations employees will receive training in the assessment and control of risks within the scope of their activities.
