Evaluation of product life cycle
Anglo American does not have product concept development and development research for ferronickel, ferroniobium, DCP (dicalcium phosphate), superphosphates – acidulations (SSP ROP, TSP, SSP Ortho) and superphosphates – granulations (GSSPA, GSSP, GTSP, MAP). On the other hand for production, marketing, storage, distribution and supply, Anglo American conducts evaluations seeking improvements. Regarding use and service, the company undertakes ferronickel evaluations, but without certification, and does not re-use or recycle any product.
There is active committee participation for development of dossiers for the substances that compose ferronickel and ferroniobium, so that export continuity to the European market is assured within the requirements of the Reach legislation. In 2009, these substances were duly “pre-registered” and their chemical and physical properties and toxicological characteristics were studied and tested, creating “exposure scenarios”. The idea is to assess the environmental and human health impact of these substances and subsequently prepare plans to mitigate the undesirable impact.

For another year Anglo American – Codemin was designated as a high performance supplier by ArcelorMittal Inox Brasil. This award seeks to recognize and value suppliers that comply with deadlines and quality requirements, with zero qualitative non-conformities and a performance level equal or greater than 80%, as well as safety and social awareness.
In 2009 a case of non-conformity with regulations was recorded, resulting in a fine or penalty. The company was fined by the Weights and Measurements Institute of the State of Tocantins (Ipem-TO), due to a discrepancy regarding CopefĂłs animal feed. The product had a lower weight than what was shown on the 50 kg packaging.
