Respect and confidence
The worldwide economic crisis in 2009 also impacted Anglo American’s relationship with its vendors. Contracts were revised due to the drop in sales that occurred, especially in the fertilizer sector. Despite the drop in demand, the company endeavored to maintain transparency, respect, and the best possible relations with its vendors. Although the negotiations were difficult, Anglo American received a vote of confidence from its vendors.
Anglo American and Petrobras partnership agreement
Anglo American signed a partnership agreement with Petrobras in 2009 to supply fuel oil and diesel oil to all operations units of the company in Barro Alto, Niquelândia, Catalão, Ouvidor and Cubatão. The agreement is valid for four years and calls for the supply of 560 thousand tons of 2A fuel oil (for industrial processes) and 48 thousand tons of diesel oil (for machinery, equipment and fleet) during this period.
For Anglo American, one of the significant benefits of the partnership is the operational aspect, since BR Distribuidora is committed to managing storage, operations and maintenance of fuel oil plants at the industrial units of Niquelândia and Barro Alto.
At the Barro Alto plant, in addition to the storage tanks that will be built starting in 2010, BR has installed a service station to supply diesel oil to the company’s fleet.
Another differentiating item in the agreement, which also coincides with Anglo American’s directives, is concern with the environment and sustainability. The Petrobras Research and Development Center developed the Add Cleaner, an additive that reduces the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere.
