Please find below the main recognitions and awards received by Anglo American Brazil in 2009:

Elected one of the top 10 companies of the Brazilian Environmental Benchmarking Ranking 2009 – Due to the water reuse optimization project at the Copebrás unit in Cubatão, Anglo American was elected one of the top 10 companies in this ranking – an initiative created to recognize projects which contribute to the diffusion of socio-environmental knowledge at companies and institutions throughout the country. The case recognized by the sponsors of the award was the Water Reuse Optimization Project (ORAC) of Copebrás-Cubatão. In this edition of the ranking, the Company achieved the highest position among mining companies. The award reinforces the Company’s commitment to rational use of natural resources and prevention against environmental pollution.

Elected one of the 20 model companies by the Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade (Exame Magazine Sustainability Guide) – The choice of the company by the Exame magazine is the result of its consistent actions in sustainability, which give priority to projects focused on environmental and social improvements in a continued manner. The Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade conducted in 2009 the most comprehensive survey on corporate accountability ever made in Brazil. Out of the 210 companies enrolled, 142 participants answered the full questionnaire, which jointly with the interviews served as basis to choose the 20 model companies.

Mining company with the best position in the Good Company Ranking – The award indicates the best performances in terms of corporate social accountability of leading European companies. In the overall classification, out of 90 companies, Anglo American Europe obtained for the third consecutive year the third position, with a score of 79%.

Winner of the Goiás Environmental Management Award – Anglo American – Codemin, by means of its Niquelândia, Horto Aranha and Barro Alto units obtained the first place of the Goiás Environmental Management Award, sponsored by FIEG (Industry Federation of the State of Goiás), in the Mining category. The company was recognized as the mining company with the best practices of environmental management in the State of Goiás.

Winner of the Environmental Merit Award 2008/2009 of the Rotary Club Santos/Boqueirão – The award received by Anglo American Brazil by means of its Copebrás-Cubatão unit seeks to recognize and pay homage to the company which stands out in the implementation of environmental projects.
