GRI Guidelines

International standard and management tool

This is the third Anglo American Brazil Report to Society made on the basis of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicators adopted worldwide as a useful tool for comparison of companies’ economic, social and environmental performances. It shows the company’s results at these three levels in 2009.

According to the indicators, the report can be classified as GRI application level A+. However, external verification of information is valid only for the printed version of this report.

To be included in the GRI appplication level A+, the report is required to answer to all performance indicators relevant to the business, in addition to provide information on all profile indicators and management approaches for all indicator categories. In 2009, there have been no changes which affect the scope of indicators.

The results presented are in connection with Anglo American Brazil and its nickel, niobium and phosphate operations in the country, and also the Exploration unit. Businesses associated to iron ore operations have an independent management, conducted by Anglo Ferrous Brazil and, therefore, they are not addressed herein.

The next Anglo American reports to society shall be published on an annual basis, always with the closing of an analysis of the goals established for each area in the previous year.
