On the report

This sixth Anglo American Brazil Report to Society informs the 2009 performance of the nickel, niobium and phosphate operations, and also the Exploration unit of the Anglo American PLC group in the country. Businesses associated to iron ore operations have an independent management, conducted by Anglo Ferrous Brazil and, therefore, they are not addressed herein.

Similarly to the last three versions, this report issue was developed on the basis of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, the most advanced standard of reference in sustainability report. The GRI standard is the most accepted on an international basis, taking into account it is also a benchmark in terms of sustainability management for companies worldwide.

The content structure for this site, which presents the evolution of practices between 2007 and 2009 and the perspectives for 2010, has been generated on the basis of interviews with company employees and data collection for GRI indicators.

The most important themes were defined by means of internal workshops, surveys with leaderships, assessment of topics addressed in the communication channel called “Fale Conosco” and surveys held in the communities where the company operates – by means of the relationship areas, the SEAT (Social Economic Assessment Toolbox) tool and biannual community forums.
